Exterior Waterproofing

The exterior waterproofing service we offer Regina and surrounding areas involves removing the soil from around the home to the foundation footing. Walls and cracks are exposed, allowing them to be repaired. When this is complete, a waterproofing barrier – such as Bakor Blueskin or another approved waterproof membrane – is installed and sealed. A dimpled board membrane can then be applied; this will prevent backfill material from touching the foundation and help channel water away.

Next, weeping tile is installed; this is a corrugated drain pipe used for water collection and discharge that is placed around the perimeter of your home at the footing level. Water in surrounding soil flows into the weeping tile and drains into a pipe that leads directly into a sump where it is removed via the sump pump.
Once the waterproofing is installed, backfill will consist of pea rock placed over the weeping tile drainage system. It is then covered with sand and capped with clay.

Interior Waterproofing

Interior waterproofing, or basement waterproofing, refers to techniques used to prevent water from entering the basement of a house or other building. Effective below ground waterproofing will include both drainage and sealers.

Basement waterproofing is needed any time a structure is built at ground level or below ground. Basement waterproofing and drainage considerations are especially important in cases where groundwater is likely to build up in the soil and raise the water table.
This higher water table causes hydrostatic pressure to be exerted underneath basement floors and against basement walls. Hydrostatic pressure forces water in through cracks in foundation walls, through openings caused by expansion and contraction of the footing-foundation wall joint and up through floor cracks.
Hydrostatic pressure can cause major structural damage to foundation walls and is likely to contribute to decay and other moisture-related problems.

Interior Weeping Tile System

An interior weeping tile system can also be referred to as a perimeter drain system and is an alternative to the traditional external excavation of foundation for waterproofing. External waterproofing is still the ideal solution for waterproofing; however, in some cases, it is not an option.

This interior drainage system will keep the basement dry and provide drainage for the water that flows and pools within the concrete or cinderblock foundation. A drainage system will be installed at the footing around the perimeter of the basement beneath the floor. This allows the water to drain thus preventing leaking or seeping from the concrete onto or beneath the basement floor. A dimpled membrane will be installed on the exposed walls.

FAQs for Basement Waterproofing

Exterior waterproofing addresses water seepage at the source. It involves excavating around the foundation, repairing cracks, and installing a waterproof membrane and weeping tile at the footing level. Interior waterproofing is a reliable alternative when excavation isn't feasible, managing moisture through a perimeter drainage system that channels water to a sump pump before it causes damage.

RSR's expert team will assess your situation and recommend the right approach. We're upfront about what that looks like before any work begins.

Common signs include water seepage through wall joints or floor cracks, damp or musty smells, white mineral deposits on basement walls, and pooling water after heavy rain or snowmelt.

The longer water seepage goes unaddressed, the more damage it does. If you're noticing any of these signs, it's worth getting a professional assessment before the damage gets worse.

RSR provides guaranteed materials and workmanship on all services, with a warranty of 10 years on waterproofing work. If you have questions, our team is available to walk you through what's covered during your free consultation.
